Hi sorry if this sounds ignorant but I looked through the blog info and was wondering what's the difference between native and indigenous?

scriptlizard‘Native’, as a capitalized proper noun, refers to the first inhabitants of the Americas in an USian context.
What is implicated here is that Indigeneity is not about oppression (Native peoples were Indigenous before colonization and will be after) or about legitimacy by primacy (Indigenous nations like the Métis and Lumbee formed post-contact), but rather about responsibilities and relationships (especially to the land).
‘Legitimacy by primacy’ is not useful not only because it erases what Indigeneity actually is, and not only because it invalidates Native people like the Métis and Lumbee, but also because it invalidates Black history on these lands (including enslavement of some Black American groups by some Native groups).
The ultimate implication is that there are Black peoples n/Native to the Americas, who are also Indigenous, one example being the Gullah people. One writer has coined the term ‘Amerindigenous’, while another coined ‘Afroindigenous’. These may help to clarify the difference.
Hope this helped!
